Valerie Hobbs attended East Carolina University where she studied a BFA in dance and musical theatre with a concentration in modern and jazz dance. She has had the privilege of studying jazz under Jay Norman, an original movie cast member of West Side Story which means she had the honor of learning Jerome Robbins jazz techniques from someone who studied directly under Jerome Robbins. She has spent the last 20 plus years teaching master classes and competition dance at various studios all over the US. During college she worked for Eastern Cheerleading and Dance Association as a lead instructor and as a member of the curriculum staff. She is currently the Performing Arts Teacher for Scholarship Prep Charter School for ages TK through 8th grade. Valerie was selected and performed in the Hula Bowl in 1994 and 1995 and had the honor of great roles such as Erma in Anything Goes, Milly in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Sandy in Grease. She also had the privilege of being the Co-Director of the Children’s Theatre at USCB and the choreographer for the USCB Theatre Company. When she is not sharing her passion for dance and theatre, Valerie enjoys playing softball, and spending time with her husband Mike, retired United States Marine Corps, and her twin daughters, Kaitlyn and Alison (Freshman at Cal State Fullerton) and her son Zach (Freshman at OCSA).
