Description:

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre. The motion picture version remains the most popular movie musical of all time.  In this adaptation, the content has been edited for live stage production, but all the elements that make this show a classic remain.

Maria Rainer

Maria is energetic, kind-hearted, adventurous, and full of joy. Although she struggles with following rules at the abbey, she has a deep love for God and people. She becomes the governess for the seven von Trapp children, helping them rediscover music, laughter, and love. Maria is brave, compassionate, and learns that sometimes the greatest adventures come from trusting God's plan. Personality: Joyful, caring, imaginative, optimistic, courageous

Captain Georg von Trapp

A decorated naval captain and widowed father of seven children. He is disciplined, reserved, and expects obedience from his family. Beneath his stern exterior is a loving father who has buried his grief after losing his wife. Maria helps him reconnect with his children and rediscover music and happiness. Max Detweiler

A charming music promoter and family friend. Max loves entertainment and always sees opportunities for success. While he can seem self-serving, he genuinely cares about the von Trapp family and often provides comic relief. Personality: Funny, outgoing, persuasive, theatrical

Elsa Schraeder

An elegant, wealthy baroness who is engaged to Captain von Trapp. Elsa is sophisticated and intelligent but doesn't connect naturally with children. She eventually realizes the Captain's heart belongs to Maria. Personality: Poised, confident, graceful, practical

The Mother Abbess

The wise and compassionate leader of the abbey. She encourages Maria to follow her heart and trust God's guidance. She provides wisdom, encouragement, and strength throughout the story. Personality: Wise, nurturing, faithful, gentle

Liesl von Trapp

The oldest von Trapp child. Liesl is mature but still discovering who she is. She experiences her first romance with Rolf and learns valuable lessons about growing up. Personality: Responsible, romantic, confident, caring

Rolf Gruber

A telegram delivery boy and Liesl's first love. As political tensions rise, Rolf is influenced by the Nazi movement, creating conflict between his loyalty and his feelings. Personality: Charming, ambitious, conflicted

Second oldest child. Serious and eager to prove himself. He respects rules but enjoys fun once Maria arrives. Personality: Responsible, dependable, polite

Louisa von Trapp

Mischievous and clever. She enjoys practical jokes and often leads the younger children into playful adventures. Personality: Funny, spirited, clever

Kurt von Trapp

Curious and energetic. Kurt loves singing and enjoys making people laugh. Personality: Playful, adventurous, friendly
