“After all these years being stuck on a page, did you ever imagine you’d see me onstage? Now I’m here, there is no telling what may ensue! No, there’s no telling what! But I’ll give you a clue…” So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat in this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! All your favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all the Whos of Whoville are brought to life by a young child. As each story unfolds Seuss’ subtle themes appeal to all ages. The score emerges as a Seussian gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk! So let your toes tap your fingers snap, and your imagination run wild.

The Cat In The Hat

The essence of mischief, fun and imagination. The Cat stirs things up, causes trouble, but always sets things right again, helping JOJO to discover the power of his own imagination as they create the story for the show together. Look for a physically adept actor to play the Cat, one who will be able to play many comic cameos and is comfortable improvising with an audience.

Is a "Thinker", a smart child with a wild imagination. They are a bit awkward, a little bit of a loner, or simply a rambunctious kid whose Thinks get them in to constant trouble. By the end of the show, they learn what it means to be a responsible member of their world, using the power and possibilities of their own "Thinks".

Horton The Elephant

A gentle giant, he is a big hearted guy who is steadfast and responsible and always tries to do the right thing for his friends. He is imaginative and receptive to the world around him. He is very un-self-conscious. Horton's view of the world never changes. He believes in its goodness.

Gertrude McFuzz

Very self-conscious and aware that her one-feather tail isn't perfect. She changes during the show from a vain, nervous and shy bird into one that stops worrying about her looks and cares for others.

Mayzie La Bird

Self-centered, selfish and vain, Mayzie will never admit to her own flaws. She manipulates anyone she can into doing what she wants.

Bird Girls

Sassy birds and citizens of the Jungle of Nool who do whatever Mayzie does. They often act as storytellers, picking up where The Cat left off. Good singer/movers with lots of soulful, sassy singing.

Sour Kangaroo

She isn't really sour at all. She's just got a lot of attitude. She's loud, brassy and a lot of fun.

Lil' Roo

Sour Kangaroo's lil' sidekick

Mr. Mayor

JOJO's Father and the Mayor of Whoville

Mrs. Mayor

JOJO's Mother and Mr. Mayor's wife.

Wickersham Brothers

These are not bad guys, they're simply a lot like kids who tease, play pranks and get a kick out of making mischief.

General Gengus Khan Schmitz

Is bursting with pride at the military academy he runs, and the students he turns out. He is not mean or abusive...he's proud! He is doing the right thing and making the world a better place.

Members of General Gengus Khan Schmitz' military academy.

The Grinch

Reformed-villain who enjoys retelling his iconic Christmas tale.

Judge Yertle the Turtle

King of the Pond. Presides as the Judge at Horton’s trial. Strong singer/actor.

Vlad Vladikoff

The antagonist who steals Horton's clover.

Thing One & Two

A mischievous duo. The Cat’s sidekicks and an extension of his personality. Essence of mischief, fun and imagination.

The Who's

Citizens of Whoville on the Planet of Who. They live in fear that their planet is in trouble. Strong singer/actors.

Jungle Creatures

Citizens of the Jungle of Nool. They all side with the Sour Kangaroo on her campaign against Horton. Strong singer/movers.
